Chairman’s Report for 2022

2022…probably the first ‘normal’ year since the onset of Covid, and all the attendant restrictions that came with it. It has been good to see everyone within the Club scene getting back to how things used to be.

I am not going to list all the excellent results etc achieved by Club members during the season – I’ll let the respective TT and RR Secs do that in their own reports.

I will say that it has been a superb year in terms of results and achievements, and I believe we can all be proud of that.

I took the opportunity earlier in the year to organise a ‘get together’ for some of the more mature ‘old guard’ members…especially those that we do not see very often.

It was held at the Farm Shop Café just across from the evening ‘10’ start. Some dozen or so came along, and enjoyed some excellent food, drink, and banter! It was really great to see and hear people catching up with one another, and perhaps reminiscing just a bit.

I plan to hold a similar ‘do’ next year.

It has become very apparent this past year that we all perhaps need to maintain some level of communication with those who we may not see or hear from very often.

Members do leave for one reason or another…getting older is a significant factor, and it’s all  too easy to just drift away and be forgotten.

This has become significantly apparent these past few months, when a long-standing and stalwart Club member became seriously ill. I will not divulge names or details here, but suffice to say that the lack of communication and contact that prevailed has led to a serious, and perhaps irretrievable breakdown in relations with that person’s family.

My job as Club Chairman is to endeavour to find a way not only to ensure that the current issue is somehow resolved, and that we can avoid similar distressing issues in the future.

I will finish with some positive news…the Club Annual Prizegiving evening will be held on Saturday 18th February 2023 at the Masonic Hall in Stamford. The venue has been booked and Hall hire payment made. I will be liaising with the Chef soon to decide upon buffet options.

I will notify you all when I have finalised everything.

I hope to keep the ticket cost to something similar to previous years.

Let me finish with a ‘Thank You’ to all those who stepped up to help this year, and making my job that much easier!
