PCC Champions On Form

Peterborough Cycling Club riders Brett Harwood, John French and Jeremy Harrison are all former national champions, who have taken time off before returning to racing and have all tasted victory in the last few weeks. Harwood, from Deeping, scored a great victory at the weekend in the District championships. The Championships are split into two races, one for the higher categories and a supporting race for the lower categories. Coming back to racing, Brett has had to start at the bottom again and competed in the supporting race. But he showed that he has lost none of his class as he broke clear half way through the 60 mile event with three other riders. The four gained 40 secs lead and just held on to the finish, where Brett out sprinted his breakaway companions to take the victory. John French has been competing in Veterans League races and racking up a great set of results. Two fifth places at Stevenage and his own Peterborough Cycling Club’s promotion, have been split by even better results of second and also a win in a race held on a tough circuit down near Dartford. Jeremy Harrison's success came in the latest round of the Helpston 10 mile series, where he stormed round in a time of 23mins 35 secs, to push Brett into second place by 17 secs. The two teamed up for the club's two-up 25 mile time trial a few days later, but a puncture for Harwood just after the start, left Harrison to go it alone. He recorded the fastest time of 1hr 57secs, but without finishing as a pair the victory went to Nick Smith and Matt Clarkson with 1hr 6mins 12secs. The club's Ian Wild, Malcolm Church, John Powell and Zed Dhanji have also all been in road race action lately and have all recorded top 15 finishes, to complete a fantastic months racing for the Peterborough Cycling Club.
