French Extends Lead Peterborough Cycling Club’s John French has extended his lead in the club time trial championship, with a great win in the club’s 15 mile event. John took the opening event, the Hardriders, back in February and made it two out of two with his latest success.
The former Olympic speed skater powered round the course in 36 mins 56 secs, putting a full 2 minutes into last years champion, Nick Smith, with Dave Yarham taking third spot with 39 mins 22 secs. However Nick Smith did taste victory a few days later, by teaming up with Andrew Alexander to win the club 2-up 15 mile time trial in 38 mins 59 secs. Second place went to Joe Ippolito and Joe Wieckowski and third to John Savill and Annette Ippolto. After Chris Harwood won the winter 10 mile series, it is now time to battle for the summer series. After 3 of the 10 mile Helpston races, it is two victories to John French and one to Nick Smith. However consistency over the three events sees new member Nick Sayer leading on both scratch and handicap as 2008 looks set to be another great year for the country’s oldest cycling club. |
