June 10 Minutes - 2010/07/15 13:07
Minutes of the Peterborough Cycling Club Committee Meeting Held on 14th June 2010 Members present: Tim Cockerell, Richard Roach, Keith Steiner, Joe Ippolito, John Savill, Rod Auckland, Simon Hodson, Dave Yarham, Ian Wild. Richard Roach took the Chair.
Apologies: Chris Harwood, Phil Cavanagh.
The Minutes of the previous Committee Meeting were agreed to be a true record of that meeting.
Matters Arising: Nil.
Correspondence: Secretary had heard more from Max Burt and his Aberdeen to London charity ride in August. He now had the intended routes, from Grantham to Peterborough on 22nd August and Peterborough to Cambridge on the 23rd. The Club will be asked to assist with publicity in Peterborough, and possibly to ride with him on both days. Graham Hicks hopes to join in on the 23rd.
Tour Series: The Club now possessed a gazebo, bought at modest price, and will man a stand on Long Causeway during the day. We had been asked to help with marshalling the TT in the afternoon.
Bike Week: The Club would not be arranging a ride out on the first Sunday of Bike Week, as a Green Wheel ride had been organised for that day. Free breakfast on the Wednesday for cyclists.
Baxter & King Road Races:
• The events had gone well with no incidents worth reporting. • Interim accounts for the day suggest a modest profit, which would just about cover the cost of the 2 Club radios. • It would be highly desirable to buy more riders’ numbers for next year’s event, if the format stayed the same.
New members: One new member received Committee approval.
Treasurer’s report: The current account was still distorted by the road race income/outgoings, but the current account was some £1,300 in credit. £281 remained on deposit.
Quartermaster’s Report: Sales of £112 had been made since the last meeting, and stock value was £1,638.
Time Trial Secretary’s Report: • The re-run of the hardriders had been poorly supported; some members seemed unaware of the date/time. • Eleven riders rode the Beardsall, but only 6 the scratch 20; the Club needed to review the need for longer distance TTs. • Chris Harwood’s points at the last meeting re handicaps etc had been taken on board and would be actioned. • The Scratch 10 on Thursday would be run on the reverse course (Sawtry to Stilton) to accommodate the NCRA road race in the same area. • Andy Baird was short of marshals and help for the Open/NDCA 15 on 10th July.
Road Race Secretary’s Report: • A formal letter of thanks for his road race sponsorship would be sent to Geoff Baxter. • Ian Wild had been placed 5th in last week’s NCRA race • The Club should consider joining the Eastern Road Race League next year.
Press Secretary’s Report: Press Secretary was not present.
Sportive Secretaries: • Members had recently taken part in the Midland Monster, Northern Cyclone and Dragon Ride. Simon was looking at the possibility of making a block Club booking for rides such as the Dragon which are filled almost as soon as they open for entries. • Sportives to come – Flat out in the Fens, Tour of the Peak, Bourne Wheelers and Ride for Ryder in September, and many more. • There were positive responses to the suggestion of a trophy or trophies for Sportive excellence in some form. Provision of such a competition this year was encouraged; detailed proposals awaited. • Consideration should be given to the Club running a Sportive next year. • The idea of a second Club jersey as still alive. Informal canvassing among a small number of members suggested a mixed response. The Committee looked forward to further discussions, including the possibility of finding a sponsor for new kit.
Trophy Secretary: One trophy was still missing.
Any Other business: • Rod had found a number of copies of the Club’s Centenary Booklet. • Ian needed support for the NCRA race on Tuesday evening 29th June. • Simon wondered if a short Newsletter could be issued after each Committee meeting highlighting points of interest; he would follow this up with the Secretary. • John wondered if there had been a report on the Road Races in the ET. • Keith distributed copies of his booklet on the Club to Committee members, for which he was thanked; more could be provided if needed.
Date of the next Committee meeting: 12th July. There being no further business the meeting closed at 2112.
