May 10 Minutes - 2010/06/21 20:03
Minutes of the Peterborough Cycling Club Committee Meeting Held on 24th May 2010 Members present: John McCarthy, Tim Cockerell, Richard Roach, Keith Steiner, Joe Ippolito, John Savill, Phil Cavanagh, Chris Harwood, Norman Hill, Rod Auckland, Simon Hodson.
Apologies: Nick Smith, Dave Yarham.
The Minutes of the previous Committee Meeting were agreed to be a true record of that meeting.
Matters Arising: Nil.
Correspondence: Keith drew attention to the letter in the ET casting aspersions on the Club, and to which he had sent an appropriate rejoinder.
Tour Series: The Club would be manning a stand that day in the Centre; details still awaited. The attention of all members had been drawn to the TT that afternoon being organised by the Clarion.
Bike Week: The Club would not be arranging a ride out on the first Sunday of Bike Week, as a Green Wheel ride had been organised for that day. Hopefully the Club would be represented on the ride – all details, and for other events, on the Peterborough travelchoice web site.
Baxter & King Road Races: Entries were rolling in, and all was going well, so far. Keith “volunteered” to do Junior gear checking required by one of the Commissaires. A prize presenter was needed, as none of the sponsors was able to be there. (Sec’s note – Past President John Broughton did a good job for us on the day).
New members: Six new members received Committee approval.
Treasurer’s report: The current account was distorted somewhat because of Road Race income, which would shortly be going out. Taking this into account, the Club was some £1,300 in credit. £281 remained on deposit.
Quartermaster’s Report: Sales of £128 had been made since the last meeting.
Time Trial Secretary’s Report: Dave was unable to attend, but wished to thank members for their support at our round of the Hereward, which had attracted favourable comment from riders. Club TTs were being well supported, with up to 20 riders.
Road Race Secretary’s Report: NTR.
Press Secretary’s Report: Press Secretary was not present.
Sportive Secretaries: Club participation in Sportives was on the increase, though finding feet was still the watchword. Seven members were going to France for the Marmotte, albeit only 4 were riding the event. A further visit to France later in the year was a possibility. There followed a long discussion about possible new Club apparel; this partly stemmed from the Saturday morning “gang”, many of whom were training for Sportives, and some wondered if updating the Club colours would be attractive. Totally changing the kit seemed unlikely, owing to the expense involved, both for members (many might object anyway) and the Club. The possibility of a second strip for events not requiring Club first colours received some support. This would be discussed further at the next meeting, and Committee members were urged to give it thought and seek opinions.
Trophy Secretary: NTR
Any Other business: • Keith’s booklet was at the printers. • Joe gave Sunday December 5th as the date for the Christmas lunch run; he would be looking for a new venue. • Chris badly needed guidance/support properly to manage the web site Club results, in particular for handicaps, veterans , most improved etc. • Simon hoped the Hunstanton run, or similar, could be made again this year. He also wondered if ending a Sunday run at a pub for a spot of socialising would be attractive. • The Peterborough/Cambridgeshire Classic Road race would not take place this year.
Date of the next Committee meeting: 14th June. There being no further business the meeting closed at 2118.
