May Minutes - 2008/05/26 16:19
Minutes of the Peterborough Cycling Club Committee Meeting Held on 12th May 2008
Members present: John McCarthy,Tim Cockerell, Dave Yarham, John Savill, Richard Roach, Norman Hill, Alex Harrison
Apologies: Joe Ippolito, Keith Steiner, Terry Wright, Jeremy Harrison, John Dawson, Rod Auckland.
The Minutes of the previous Committee Meeting were agreed to be a true record of that meeting.
Matters Arising: • Alex reported that BeWell had agreed to support the Open 25 with prizes in kind; in return they would require some publicity. • The idea of a Club off-road section was unlikely to come to fruition. • Inviting Open event organisers to the Committee Meeting preceding their event was accepted and John Powell had agreed to do so.
Correspondence: • Alex had provided requested information to BC Central Region on courses we use – even though we are now reluctantly in Eastern region.
Open Events: In the absence of organiser John Dawson, the Committee focused on ensuring that all was in order for the Open 25 on 24th May. The Chairman and Dave Yarham bore the brunt of these measures, and running through a lengthy list of things to be covered, it seemed that most were in hand. There was still a need for more marshals, but the Chairman thought he could manage this, and Alex agreed to look after photography. Entry numbers were inevitably affected by the National 10 being held on the same weekend (not known when the event was added to the programme), but signs were encouraging that a decent entry size would be forthcoming. Secretary’s note: Subsequently confirmed that a good size field had entered.
National 25: The Club would fulfil its commitment to support the National 25 (Stilton/Sawtry Course on 8th June).
Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer was not present.
Quartermaster: Quartermaster was not present.
Road-Race Secretary’s Report: Road race Secretary was not present.
Time Trial Secretary’s Report: • Two Club Championship events, the 15 and 2-up, had been well supported. • Thursday evening 10s were also attracting good sized fields. • The necessary support for the Hereward 10 on 15 May was confirmed; a large field of 75 riders had entered, making it essential that the event started on time.
Press Secretary’s Report: Press reports of Club events and successes had been submitted.
New Members: The Committee approved two new membership applications.
Any Other business: • John Savill thought membership cards could include the information that the member had paid the extra subscription to cover event entry fees. This would be done next year. • The Committee noted some excellent performances in Sportives, notably by the Harrison brothers. While Sportives are not races, they had recorded the fastest times in 2 recent events.
Date of the next meeting: 16th June.
There being no further business the meeting closed at 2043.
