Minutes of the Peterborough Cycling Club Committee Meeting Held on 21st April 2008
Members present: John McCarthy,Tim Cockerell, Dave Yarham, Rod Auckland, Joe Ippolito, John Savill, Terry Wright, Richard Roach, Keith Steiner, Norman Hill
Apologies: None
The Minutes of the previous Committee Meeting were agreed to be a true record of that meeting.
Matters Arising: • As Alex was not present, there was no news about possible sponsorship by BeWell. • The NCRA Road Race on 29th March had gone well. • Those 2007 members who had not paid their 2008 subscriptions had received a reminder. Three members had resigned.
Correspondence: • Dave had received notification from SE Mids CTT that all start sheets must be kept for one year, or 7 years if an accident occurred. • Secretary had received a pleasant letter from Ray Needle, who lives in Hampshire, but remains a Club member.
Open Events: • It was not long until the next Open Event (25TT on 24 May), and organiser John Dawson was not present. Chairman expressed concern that all was in hand. (Secretary’s note: After the meeting JD was contacted, and his new employment might cause difficulties for his TT organising responsibilities. Chairman and Dave Yarham would ensure all was properly organised, and would need help from many other Club members.) • Joe Ippolito had secured considerable sponsorship for the Open RR on 7 Sep, for which the Committee expressed much thanks. A number of issues needed to be resolved before details are publicised, but the signs for a more than usually successful event were good.
Treasurer’s Report: Taken early in the meeting as Rod needed to get away, the NCRA subscription had been paid. Current account stood at £366 with much clothing money yet to be collected; £276 remained on deposit. Treasurer left the meeting.
National 25 TT Championships: The SE Midlands CTT District was organising this event on 8 Jun on the Stilton course. The Club was committed to providing marshals all day at the Norman Cross roundabout for the 3 events. Three would be required at all times, one of whom would need to have a mobile ‘phone, with the number pre-notified to the TT organiser.
Sportives: Secretary wondered if there was a role for a volunteer to coordinate participation in this increasingly popular form of cycling, so that entries, transport, accommodation etc could be more organised. At least 10 members were active in these events, and the subject would be considered further at the next meeting.
Routes: Attention was drawn to a new section on the Club’s web site entitled Routes; this was a useful tool for all forms of cycling.
Club Off-Road Section: Little progress had been made in establishing if there was a need for a Club off-road section, or if membership of the Club provided such riders with any significant benefits.
Quartermaster: Quartermaster was not present.
Road-Race Secretary’s Report: Road race Secretary was not present.
Time Trial Secretary’s Report: • The last Winter 10 had been attended by 2 hardy souls on a day of snow showers; the result was determined by amicable agreement. • The first “Summer” 10 had taken place on an equally cold, but dry day, and had been well supported. • Dave had organised a VTTA 10 mile TT at Tuxford, which had a large entry. • Dave was unable to attend the 2-up TT on 4 May, and needed assurance that a timekeeper would be available; Chairman thought he could oblige.
Press Secretary’s Report: Pres Secretary was not present.
Any Other business: • Joe wondered when a possible new 10 course would be trialled. Dave said it would be left to Jul/Aug period. • Keith was still looking at a source for a 25 year members’ badge. • Keith considered that Open Event organisers needed to attend the Committee meeting preceding their event; the Committee agreed this was necessary.
Date of the next meeting: 12th May (to afford an opportunity to ensure the Open 25 TT was in good shape); There being no further business the meeting closed at 2050.
