A note from Paul Oliver - 2010/06/28 08:03
Well, little did I know a simple walk through town on a sunny day in June would lead to a new hobby, new friends and a fitter me. Last June I was walking through town and it happened to be cycle week. I had always enjoyed riding and when I saw a stall for Peterborough Cycling Club I joined up – little did I know how busy the next year would be. First, the changeover from mountain bike to road bike. I have only ever ridden a mountain bike, and on my first ride out with the Club I looked at the bikes – you know, really thin wheels, very light frames etc and thought would I, or could I change to one of those. Well I did at Christmas and got on fine with it. In the last year I have done many new rides. I went on the Hunstanton ride which was great, and the Belvoir Castle ride was just as enjoyable, must be I am doing it again soon. I also took part in the Sue Ryder ride, which I am doing again this year. In September I had enough confidence to ride to Kent going through London, it took me around 8 hours. I enjoyed it so much I am doing it again in August with 2 of my brothers. So far this year I have done the Peterborough 100, and I have started to do time trials, and I hope to do some sportives. Last but not least, I would like to thank the members of the Club, especially the ones I ride with on Sunday, for making me welcome, and a special thank you to Joe, Tim and Graham for keeping me on the road.
