Saturday Early Ride - 2009/11/23 09:11
Beginners/Intermediate Training Ride This ride starts at 0745 on Saturday mornings from Orton Mere in Peterborough. Riders meet either near the bus stop fronting Oundle Road at 0745, and then proceed to Elton Furze Golf Course Haddon Road, at 8am, to collect riders who live to the west of Peterborough. The ride is ideal as an introduction for those looking to push themselves beyond a "steady pace" as it averages 18-20 mph. Riders are not dropped but encouraged to stay with the pace, as it is intended to be a committed "social" ride, rather than a full-blast training ride! The route takes in the villages of Lutton, Polebrook, Ashton, Oundle, Southwick - via the water tower hill - to win the daily King of the Mountains title - Bulwick, Blatherwycke, Kings Cliffe, Apethorpe, Woodnewton, Fotheringhay, Nassington, Yarwell, Wansford, Castor and back into Peterbororough through Longthorpe. The route is approxiately 45 miles - and the pace and timing delivers riders back in Peterborough for 10.15am New riders are welcome, either as an introduction to Peterborough Cycling Club or, to participate in learning to ride in a group.
