Draft July Minutes - 2010/08/12 14:45
Minutes of the Peterborough Cycling Club Committee Meeting Held on 12th July 2010 Members present: John McCarthy, Tim Cockerell, Richard Roach, Joe Ippolito, Ian Wild, Nick Smith, Nick Sayer.
Apologies: Phil Cavanagh, Simon Hodson, Dave Yarham, John Savill, Rod Auckland, (Keith Steiner subsequently).
The Minutes of the previous Committee Meeting were agreed to be a true record of that meeting, except that the Secretary had neglected to record the presence of Nick Smith.
Matters Arising: • There was no rush to purchase extra road race riders’ numbers, but if next year’s races followed the same format as this year’s, their purchase was agreed in principle. • The apparently high value of clothing stock was somewhat distorted by several high value skin suits yet to be claimed.
Correspondence: Nil
Max Burt: The Club was committed to helping Max Burt on his Aberdeen to London charity ride in August; 22nd Grantham to Peterborough, 23rd Peterborough to Cambridge. The Club had agreed to: • Provide an accompanying cyclist on both legs, in the unlikely event that the rider(s) in Max’s entourage were unavailable. In any case, some of us hoped to ride out and accompany him on the Sunday, and on the Monday Graham Hicks hoped to be part of the scene, when Joe was available to help if needed. • Help with local publicity. Nick Sayer was in touch with Max’s publicity officer – provided for the period by BT. It was felt that the Monday morning departure provided the best opportunity, as it would be difficult to predict arrival time on the Sunday (subsequently agreed by the event PO). Secretary would investigate the possibility of getting a mayoral wave-off, or similar.
New members: Two new members received Committee approval, and 2 or 3 others were threatening to join. The Club now had some 80 members.
Treasurer’s report: Treasurer was away, but reported that the current account amounted to £1,310 with no significant liabilities, and the deposit remained at £281.
Quartermaster’s Report: A quiet period with sales of £43 since the last meeting.
Time Trial Secretary’s Report: • The Committee expressed thanks to Andy Baird for a well-organised N&DCA TT on 10th July. It was also noted that he had completed over 200 miles in the recent Icknield Road 12 hour TT. • Eleven riders had ridden in the 20 mile Rimes Cup, won by Nick Sayer.
Road Race Secretary’s Report: • Ian Wild had finished 4th in the NCRA summer series, including one second place. • Consideration of joining the ERRL was put on hold until the possible expansion of the NCRA series became a reality; in any case, concern was expressed about the probable need for the Club to promote and organise another road race.
Press Secretary’s Report: Little to report, except the upcoming need to support the Max Burt ride. Results were sent to local Press, but not always published.
Sportive Secretaries: • Eight Club members had ridden the Pork Pies & Potholes Sportive. • A party of 7 had visited Alpe d’Huez, some to ride the Marmotte ultra Sportive. Three completed the gruelling course (including Lindsay Millard, a recent member). Much experience gained in very hot conditions, particularly by 2 of the more mature Club members who restricted their activity to breaking the record for the longest ascent time of the Alpe. • There was general support for a foreign trip next year - to be discussed.
Trophy Secretary: NTR.
Any Other business: • Ian thanked members for their support at the recent NCRA road race. • There was a long discussion about the need/desirability to change the Club’s clothing, some feeling a more modern design was called for. It was decided that the Committee would put a well-argued case for such a change to the AGM in November. This needed reasonably urgent action, and Ian agreed to draft proposals to form a basis for discussion at the next Committee meeting. • John reminded all that he needed support for the Open 10 TT on 28th August. Date of the next Committee meeting: 20th September. There being no further business the meeting closed at 2102.
