March 10 Minutes - 2010/06/07 09:15
Minutes of the Peterborough Cycling Club Committee Meeting Held on 15th March 2010 Members present: John McCarthy, Tim Cockerell, Richard Roach, David Yarham, Keith Steiner, Joe Ippolito, John Savill, Ian Wild, Phil Cavanagh.
Apologies: Simon Hodson, Nick Smith, Greg Siggs, Rod Auckland, Chris Harwood, Norman Hill.
The Minutes of the previous Committee Meeting were agreed to be a true record of that meeting.
Matters Arising: Nil.
Correspondence: • Secretary was in correspondence with Spokes – a Herts cycling organisation that was spending the weekend in Peterborough first 3 days in May – Bank Holiday weekend (revised date, Sec). They were hoping for some mutual rides with the Club. Both Saturday and Sunday seemed possible days for meeting their requests. • The Club had been invited to join a Community day at the Voyager School in August, but the Committee felt that it was not likely to suit our needs; Secretary would reply accordingly. • Dave, and some other members, had received the CTT SE Mids handbook for 2010.
Cycle Jumble: Had gone well.
Baxter & King Road Races: • Secretary/Organiser hoped to ease his burden on the day by getting helpers to cover such tasks as checking out radios and roof signs. Joe suggested that a Race Committee might help in this direction. • Some antipathy shown to our race by the owner of Middlemarsh farm at the end of last year’s race was possibly partly justified, and she continued to oppose the races finishing near her farm. To overcome this, the finish would be moved towards Sawtry and steps taken to control parking on the verges near the farm. (Organiser’s note; since the meeting the local police have agreed to help out in this respect). • Ian felt we should try to obtain advance commitments from members to support the various Open Events during the year; it was agreed to try this out.
New members: Applications from 3 new members were approved. Club numbers would exceed 70 if the 15 or so members expected to renew membership for the year did so.
Treasurer’s report: The current account was healthy at some £1,005, though the £400 balance for the clothing order would eventually come due. £281 remained on deposit.
Quartermaster’s Report: Sales of £138 had been made since the last meeting. The new order was due for delivery by 14th April.
Time Trial Secretary’s Report: • The Hardriders had been postponed owing to adverse weather and road conditions; it will probably be re-run on the last Tuesday in May. • It was extremely cold for the February Winter 10, but it was well supported. The last event of the series was due on 27th March.
Road Race Secretary’s Report: NTR.
Press Secretary’s Report: Press Secretary was not present.
Sportive Secretaries: The web site Sportive section was still attracting much interest, and inquiries/suggestions were being received regularly. Saturday morning training runs were still popular. Phil wondered if we should encourage more participation in off-road riding, in particular he apparently believes that more of us should be rushing to join the Wadenhoe mud bath events. This, and the possibility of the Club running a Reliability Trial will be further considered. The Committee expressed its appreciation of the efforts being made by Simon and Phil to promote both Sportives and Club activities in general.
Trophy Secretary: • Modifying trophies commercially to provide more space for names would be prohibitively expensive, but John was investigating an alternative, less costly method. • Keith had brought a trophy which was no longer competed for, and it was decided to make this the Winter 10 Series Trophy (somewhat smarter then the present “layby” trophy) • John now had a number of Club medals, also from Keith’s loft, and a die stamp for producing more, if needed. • Phil had a facility for laser engraving, which John might find useful.
Any Other business: • Keith was working on a social history of the Club which he would be asking Committee members to proof read. • Secretary had misled the Committee about Ian Wild’s resignation as Press Secretary, as he had volunteered to continue as a Committee member. This was rectified by his being co-opted on to the Committee. • Chairman John expressed further support for the idea of a Club Reliability Trial. • Secretary told the Committee that the Cambridgeshire Classic Road Race would go ahead on 15th August, starting and finishing in Peterborough, and the Club might be involved.
Date of the next Committee meeting: 19th April. (Note the May meeting will probably be held on 24th May). There being no further business the meeting closed at 2100.
