June 09 Minutes - 2009/08/06 08:56 Minutes of the Peterborough Cycling Club
Committee Meeting
Held on Monday 15th June 2009

Members present:
John McCarthy, Richard Roach, Tim Cockerell, David Yarham, Joe Ippolito, Norman Hill, Nick Smith, Rod Auckland, Gary Gwynn, Keith Steiner.

Apologies:
Jeremy Harrison, Nick Sayer, John Savill, Chris Harwood, Ian Wild.

April Minutes:
The Minutes of the previous Committee Meeting were agreed to be a true record of that meeting.

Matters Arising:
Rod had found an exercise book with details of place to place and Club records. Fascinating stuff which John McCarthy took to copy and make a more usable record for the Club to enjoy.
Nick Smith reported little progress on designing a Club sportive, but there was no likelihood of a venture this year. He would still be supporting Ride for Ryder, but Club involvement was not required.

Correspondence:
Rod had received Sustrans and Road Peace correspondence which he passed to Keith.
Dave reported a new Regional requirement to send Club Event police notification forms to the Regional Club Event Officer.

Bike Week:
Arrangements for the Bike Week Come and Try on the following evening were discussed and agreed.

4 Jun City Centre Race:
This had been a splendid day for Peterborough, Cycling and the Club. Thanks due to those who helped out on the Club stand, and who ensured a Club presence at the time trial and ride round was evident.

Road Races:
The road races on 7 Jun had been successful, despite the weather. Two full fields had meant that a small profit of some £140 had resulted; organiser presented the final accounts to the Treasurer. Conditions meant that the Broom Wagon did much trade and needs to be a regular feature of the races.
The Club’s thanks to Baxter & King Construction for sponsoring the races would be formally sent to Mr Baxter by the Secretary.
Organiser reported that the Commissaires’ reports had been satisfactory, the only comment being that we should consider a first-aid vehicle for both races.
The National Race had been increased to 8 laps to meet the minimum distance for a National B race. Because this was done after the handbook was issued, and BC were unaware, they had only awarded points for a Band 3 race, and were refusing to upgrade to Band 2. With the Committee’s support, the organiser would continue efforts to persuade BC to change their mind. (Secretary’s Note: BC Eastern Region will discuss the matter at it’s August meeting).

Treasurer’s Report:
Club finances were healthy, though there was some uncertainty as to the exact balance until the road race accounts had been assimilated; but there was enough to justify a clothing order. Deposit account remained at £281.

Quartermaster’s Report:
Richard had a clothing order ready to go, and needed a 50% deposit of some £450, which was approved.

Road-Race Secretary’s Report:
Road Race Secretary was not present.

Time Trial Secretary’s Report:
John Savill’s accident had inevitably needed a full report, and a subsequent Regional hearing, which will be held in July.
Our round of the Hereward series had gone well, Club competitors excelling. Nick Sayer continued to dominate Club events, winning the scratch 20. He had also returned a 58.43 in the National 25, and Brett a 55.33; well done to both.
Evening 10s continued to be well supported, but there were only 8 riders for the scratch 20.

Press Secretary’s Report:
Press Secretary was not present.

Any Other business:
• John McCarthy noted the need for support at his Open 15 on 4 Jul, and similar support was needed for Ian Wild at the next NCRA race on 30 Jun.
• Joe reported that Joe Wieckowski had expressed thanks for the card offering the Club’s condolences for his recent bereavement.
• Rod had unearthed details of Club members who had been killed in the World Wars; it was hoped they could be mentioned at the Remembrance service later this year.

Date of the next Committee meeting: 13th July.

There being no further business the meeting closed at 2116.
